Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer
Helium Exploration & Production Company | Battle Creek, SK
After the Battle Creek gas plant was constructed and put into operation, there was a desire to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the waste stream not normally considered combustible. While it is already considered a non-hydrocarbon source stream, there are still some trace hydrocarbons present that add to GHG emissions. The regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO) preheats the inlet gas in order to allow for combustion of an ultra-low heating value gas. By doing this, the carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent of the methane in the gas stream is reduced by a large factor, up to 26x. The exhaust stream is used to preheat the inlet prior to being vented up the stack.
Committed to Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions and
Demonstrating Environmental Leadership? So are we.
In addition to the RTO itself, our scope included propane storage and delivery for the RTO startup, structural steel modifications, supply of control valves, control system integration with the existing plant, and various safety systems to allow for the RTO to shut off / trip without impacting the balance of the plant.
